Present projects

In Nithari we started with the limited intention of bringing minimum literacy to those children of this community who had missed the opportunity of going to school and was beginning to adopt vagrancy as a way of life.

We are now running an informal school in hired premises in two shifts with an enrolment of around 350 children who have been organized into classes, based on their level of learning.

Many of the children have been streamlined into regular schools. The classes are held for six days a week, for four hours daily. The timings have been so chosen, to enable those who have been streamlined into regular schools to attend the classes as well.

We have endevoured to make our activities as encompassing and holistic as possible . We combine basic education with inculcation of values, confidence building, general awareness and entertainment.

We have started a similar project in Morna, which is another village near Nithari. We have started with a small group of children and one teacher. At present the Morna project is being supported by "JATAN", an association of young professionals ,who acquired their Management degree under the same ALMA MATER, and are now working in differnt organisations. We hope to expand this project gradually with the help of interested individuals and groups.
